What are Dermal Fillers?

These gel substances made of hyaluronic acid are injected into the face to fill lines and wrinkles and to add volume to soft tissue. Deep set lines can be smoothed down with filler.  

 

As we age, our body stops producing collagen and elastin, both of which contribute to a youthful look. We start losing collagen at the age of 25, and then your collagen and elastin levels then decline at a rate of 2% per year. You body will have stopped producing it altogether by your late twenties.

How long do Dermal fillers last?

Fillers are not permanent, these last 6-18 months depending on the type used.

Are there any side effects to filler?

Temporary side effects that are completely normal after facial injections are swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness. These side effects are generally mild to moderate and usually disappear shortly after injection and resolve a few days after injection to the skin.

Are Dermal Fillers painful?

Dermal fillers contain a pre mixed local anaesthetic which will help any discomfort. Furthermore we can apply a topical anaesthetic cream before treatment.

Is there a difference between Botox and Dermal Filler?

Yes. Botox stops the small muscles in your face from making movements that cause wrinkles, whilst dermal fillers plump from below the wrinkle to smooth them out and promote a youthful look.

​Are Dermal Fillers safe?

Yes, but they must be administered by an experienced trained practitioner. The face has many different layers of skin and structure including nerves and blood vessels. If the person administering fillers is not trained in facial anatomy and isn't careful, there is risk of damage, infection, artery occlusion leading to tissue death and scarring. It is so important to see a registered medical professional who understands the anatomy of the face and knows which areas to avoid.
