Jowls
Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Almost everyone develops jowls as they age. It happens primarily because your skin becomes thinner and less elastic over time.

Other contributing factors are genes, environmental factors, and lifestyle choices. Jowls may be less pronounced in people who have thicker skin, more fat or more collagen in the area below the cheeks and chin.

The proteins collagen and elastin that sit in your cheek and below the jawline are lost and as a result the cheek skin surrounding your mouth loses its firmness and tightness. Once this happens the gravity causes it to sag and descend to the area on either side of you mouth and chin.

Dermal fillers are a good treatment choice for jowls as its a non surgical option. The hyaluronic acid filler can be injected into the neck and chin to fill in jowls and make them look less saggy. They can add definition to the jawline.
